Mickey and the Sleuth (a 1970s Disney comic series parodying Sherlock Holmes, where Mickey acts as the assistant to the inept “Sureluck Sleuth”). This page features the College of Criminal Knowledge, a front for the recurring antagonist, Professor Nefarious, alongside his henchmen Fliplip, Sidney, and Armadillo. Stories from this subseries were widely published by Disney Magazine (sponsored by Procter & Gamble in 1975) and by Western Publishing under Gold Key’s Walt Disney Showcase line in 1977. The bottom margin reads “100% Black / Color Separation, ” which indicates the top proof was printed using the black line art layer (the “K” in CMYK process printing) alongside basic flat guides to test alignment with the color separation. Target crosshairs on the left and right margins serve as registration marks, ensuring that successive color plates aligned perfectly during the printing process. Good condition; with signs of prior wear during production and subsequent long-term storage.
