DISNEY 1936 “MICKEY MOUSE EMERSON TUBE RADIO” MODEL 411-EX! PROFESSIONAL CHASSIS RESTORATION AND HIGH GRADE. DISNEY 1934 “MICKEY MOUSE EMERSON” VACUUM TUBE MODEL 411 RADIO SET. THE RADIO WORKS LIKE NEW SINCE THE CHASSIS RESTORATION. THE RADIO UTILIZES AN ANTENNA CORD THAT CAN BE PULLED OUT OF THE BACK OF THE RADIO FOR THE BEST RECEPTION. MY TEST DID NOT INVOLVE UNWINDING THE ANTENNA CORD! I WAS AMAZED AT HOW MANY MORE STATIONS THAT I COULD TUNE INTO WITH STRONG SIGNALS THAN BEFORE THE RESTORATION. THE SOUND QUALITY IS AMAZING. THE RADIO MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 5 1/2″ X 7 1/4″ X 7 1/4 TALL. THIS VERSION OF THE RADIO HAS A SOLID WOOD CABINET WITH “SYROCCO” PRESSED WOOD COMPOSITION PANELS ON FOUR SIDES. THE RAISED IMAGES OF MICKEY MOUSE PLAYING A VARIETY OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CAN BE FOUND ON 4 SIDES. THE IMAGES ARE IN FANTASTIC CONDITION YIELDING EXCEPTIONAL DISPLAY QUALITIES. AN EMBOSSED METAL PLATE IS ATTACHED TO THE BOTTOM FRONT OF THE RADIO AND READS AS FOLLOWS. THE 1934 EMERSON RADIO UTILIZES 4 TUBES FOR OPERATION. THE PROBLEM WITH THE TECHNOLOGY OF THE TIME WAS THAT 4 TUBES COULD ONLY UTILIZE APPROXIMATELY 96% OF THE ELECTRICITY BEING FED TO THE SAME. THIS EXCESS 4% OF UNUSABLE HEAT GENERATION HAD TO GO SOMEWHERE. MOST OF THIS ADDITIONAL HEAT THAT WAS GENERATED DUE TO THE VOLTAGE EXCESS WAS DESIGNED TO BE ABSORBED INTO THE ORIGINAL HEAVY ASBESTOS INSULATED ELECTRICAL CORD THAT WAS INTEGRATED INTO THE DESIGN. IF MODERN ELECTRONIC UPGRADES TO THESE ORIGINAL RADIO SET-UPS ARE NOT DONE, THE POTENTIAL FOR A VERY HAZARDOUS ENVIRONMENT MUST ALWAYS BE CONSIDERED. I REMOVED THE RADIO GUTS FROM THE CABINET AND HAD ONE OF THE LEADING RADIO AND RESTORATION COMPANIES IN THE WORLD DO THERE THING TO THIS RADIO. THE COMPANY WENT THROUGH MORE THAN A 24 PLUS ITEM CHECKLIST IN THE RESTORATION PROCESS OF THE RADIO. THE MOST INGENIOUS PART OF THE RESTORATION WAS THE ADDITION OF A UNIQUE CIRCUITRY RETROFIT THAT INCLUDED A NEW CAPACITOR TO SOLVE THE EXCESS HEAT DISTRIBUTION PROBLEM. WHEN NOW PLUGGING IN THE RADIO WITH A NEW VINTAGE RE-PRODUCTION. LINED CORD THAT WAS PART OF THE RESTORATION PROCESS, THE EXCESS VOLTAGE PROBLEM IS NO MORE.
